Synopsis
Ruka is a junior high school girl who is not good at expressing her feelings. During summer vacation, feeling uncomfortable at home and at school, she meets two boys, Umi and Sora, at the aquarium where her father works. They were raised by dugongs. At the same time, a meteorite fell into the ocean, and the world was experiencing a number of phenomena in which fish with “white spots” disappeared as light. This encounter between the boys and the girl brings about a mysterious change in the sea creatures of the earth.
Review
“Children of the Sea” is the story of the universe and the birth of life. It depicts the connection and mystery of the sea, the earth, the universe, and life. The distinctive feature of the manga is its drawing style. Igarashi basically uses a ballpoint pen to draw this manga, and the meticulously detailed drawings make one feel as if one is watching a movie. A key phrase that appears frequently in this story is “words cannot express what is important.” It is up to the reader to interpret the message of this manga.
